About Bruce D. Kennedy

  • Graduate of the University of Illinois B.A. 1975, J.D. 1978
  • Admitted to practice law in Minnesota in 1978
  • Rated "Superlawyer" by Mpls-St. Paul magazine 2003-2006
  • Rated AV by Martindale Hubbell (the Martindale-Hubbell AV rating indicates very high to preeminent legal ability and very high ethical standards as established by confidential opinions from members of the Bar)
  • Former Chair of the Family Law Section of the Minnesota State Bar Association
  • Member of the Supreme Court's Visitation Task Force
  • Member of the Bar Association's Family Law Systems Committee
  • Primary drafter of many pieces of legislation, including Section 518.68 (reduced Appendix A to two pages), 518.11 (service by alternate means instead of publication), revised 519.05 (limited liability for spouse's debts)
  • Helped draft changes to Minnesota law on parenting time and child support by working with legislators
  • Represented over 2000 clients in divorce proceedings, from the quickest and friendliest to most complex and difficult
  • Charges a reasonable flat fee for divorces without conflict
  • Practices throughout Twin Cities metro area
  • Qualified Neutral Under Rule 114 of the Minnesota General Rules of Practice (arbitrator, early neutral evaluator, mediator)
  • I made my own website. Maybe not as slick as many, but the information is good.
  • I accept VISA and Mastercard
  • What makes me different: I’m very knowledgeable when it comes to dividing real estate and retirement plans, and what to do with nonmarital property--assets that were originally (or were derived from) assets owned before the marriage, inherited by one spouse, given to one spouse, or received from a personal injury settlement. I have taught other attorneys at seminars about property and debt. My practice is very personal–you will be dealing only with me and not with paralegals or secretaries. I will quote you a flat rate for a divorce with no conflict. Unlike many attorneys, I will discuss your situation over the phone, and without charge. Looking for a Financial Early Neutral Evaluator aka FENE? I am a good choice if you want to schedule soon. My practice is low-key, and I am not overbooked. My approach is a little less formal than some. I usually don't require payment in advance or make you sign a long contract. These meetings are expensive, so I try hard to achieve a settlement in one session.
